Jiangsu Dewei Advanced Material Co Ltd, gaining a base in Shaxi ancient town of Taicang, is a competitive researcher and producer of polymer materials to make cables. It is one of the few companies in the industry recognized by Underwriter Laboratories Inc, the largest and best known independent, not-for-profit laboratory in the world.

Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute (SGRI) is directly supervised by the State Grid Corporation of China. It is the country’s first high-end research center focused on development of global energy interconnection technologies and equipment. Since its establishment, SGRI has made many impressive accomplishments around the globe, in fields of high voltage direct current transmission, alternating-current transmission, new electric materials, energy conversion, and storage.

According to the contracts, Jiangsu Dewei Advanced Material will work with SGRI in sectors of technical creation, research findings application and talent training so as to speed up the integration of academic studies and production, and build up mechanisms for R&D, manufacturing and innovation on high-voltage cables. The two sides will combine to found a lab for research on high-voltage cable materials, and a joint venture of high-voltage cable materials.

At the signing ceremony, Shen Jiang, a department leader from State Grid Corporation of China, said the corporation would promote cooperation with governments and businesses in Jiangsu province. He said this signing ceremony was a practice of the company to explore ways to transform its research findings. Shen hoped in the future, the two sides could strive to expand collaborative innovation and help invigorate China’s cable industry and transition in energy consumption.

Teng Letian, head of SGRI, pointed out that SGRI is leading the world in progress for high voltage direct current transmission, alternating-current transmission, new electric materials, big data, energy conversion and storage in recent years. He praised Jiangsu Dewei for its competence in manufacturing and test of high-voltage cable materials, and promised to continuously improve the governance of the joint venture, boost research on core technologies for cable material industrialization and expand exchanges in emerging energy storage.

Jiangsu Dewei’s chairperson Zhou Jianming concluded the event with the prospect of reducing China’s cable material industry dependence on overseas high-voltage and ultra-high voltage materials and push forward the global energy interconnection sector through collaboration with SGRI.
