As green concepts become increasingly popular, more residents in Taicang city, Jiangsu province, are opting for environmentally-friendly ways to pay tribute to their ancestors and deceased loved ones for this year's Tomb-Sweeping Day.

"In the past, we would burn fake paper money for our ancestors on this special occasion," said a man surnamed Yu. "But now we choose to pay respect to our deceased relatives with flowers, which are more environmentally-friendly."

According to a cleaner at the Taicang public cemetery, flowers and fruit have become more popular than fake cash among the public in the last two years, and their cleaning work is much easier than before.

In addition, online tomb sweeping has also been welcomed by the younger generation. Taicang has launched an online commemoration platform www.tcgmlsly.org to allow people to pay respects to the dead in a convenient, low-cost and low-carbon way.
