Suzhou welcomes new national 5A tourist attraction

Nine scenic tourist areas were named new national 5A tourist attractions, including the Suzhou (Wuzhong) Taihu Lake Scenic Area.

The Suzhou (Wuzhong) Taihu Lake Scenic Area is located by Taihu Lake at the southwestern corner of Suzhou, often nicknamed paradise on earth. It consists of Suzhou Taihu National Tourist Resort, Dongshan Scenic Spot, Qionglong Shan Scenic Spot and Wangshan Scenic Spot. Wuzhong has three Chinese historic and cultural famous towns: Mudu, Luzhi and Dongshan. It also has two provincial historic and cultural famous towns, Guangfu and Jinting; two Chinese historic and cultural famous villages; 11 city-level controlled ancient villages; and 91 relic preservation units at various levels (including seven national units, 16 provincial units and 68 city-level units). The region tops other counterparts across China in terms of the number of relics housed in its museum.

The whole tourist area is integrated with tourism resources, such as Taihu landscapes, ancient towns and villages, historical sites, cultural heritage, religion, and country folk. Suzhou (Wuzhong) Taihu Lake Scenic Area began the journey to become a national 5A scenic attraction in August 2011.

After a year of effort, the tourist area successfully created a leisure and tourism travel model through the integration of resources and perfection of public service facilities. The successful attainment of the 5A tourist attraction title greatly increases the popularity and reputation of Taihu. Suzhou has 63 national travel scenic areas, including five 5A, 25 4A, 20 AAA and nine AA scenic spots.
