The annual Bacheng Grape Festival kicked off in Bacheng, a water town in East China's Jiangsu province on July 28.

A total of 250 visitors attended the first day of the festival, which has seven activity areas, including one for Kunque Opera, where revelers can take in some traditional music whilst tasting the grapes on offer.

Also at the festival, which will last until September, there is a traditional Chinese costume-themed model show, and a grape-themed running contest. The event also has 14 exhibiting areas, which present local fruits and vegetables to visitors.

"Bacheng is stepping up efforts to promote innovation in the rural tourism industry. The grape festival helps to develop rural tourism, combining modern agriculture and tourism to enrich the lives of locals," Wang Ye, the mayor of Bacheng said.

The output of grapes in Bacheng, which is known for its high quality, juicy grapes, is expected to reach 780 kilograms in 2018.
