The results of the 2017 top Kunshan delicacies were announced on Dec 18, after deliberation from many local foodies and gourmets, who had tasted and evaluated different foods over the previous six weeks.

Kunshan in collaboration with Tianya Post Bar had launched the online campaign on Nov 1.

Shipu mutton

Shipu mutton is a well-known delicacy in Qiandeng, an old water town in Kunshan. This dish can be prepared and served in several ways, including as braised mutton, white boiled mutton, hot fried mutton, and as a cold dish.

To truly appreciate the taste of classic sliced mutton, it is recommended to dip it in a little soy sauce. In winter, it is said that mutton soup will do a lot of good for people who are sick, as it helps to dispel chills and keep the body warm.

Zhoushi Aoya

Zhoushi Aoya, a Kunshan special delicacy, is made from duck. It captures the hearts of lots of foodies with its unique simmer method. The classic Aoya tastes fatty but not greasy.

Taxus Chinensis chicken

Taxus Chinensis chicken is made from chicken that grew up eating the fruit of Taxus Chinensis. The cooking method is very creative , and it goes great with a large range of chicken based dishes.

 Boiled chicken, chicken blood soup, and chicken porridge all retain the original taste and flavor of the Taxus Chinesis chicken with great effect.

 

Sweet green rice ball

Sweet green rice balls, special snacks in Kunshan, are famous for their color. The color and taste embody the features of spring.

Sweet balls are steamed by adding the juice of wormwood and kneading manually and stuffing with different fillings according to preference.

Yangcheng Lake Hairy Crab

Yangcheng Lake Hairy Crab is a delicacy you cannot miss in the autumn in Kunshan.

Steaming is a common cooking method of hairy crab. Tangerine crab cream, white jade-like grease, and tender meat tastes much better when eaten dipped in vinegar and ginger powder.

  Aozao noodle

Quick-fry fish noodles and bittern duck noodles are the most famous of the Aozao noodles.

The quick-fry fish noodles feature slender and white noodles and red soup, while bittern duck noodles feature white soup and noodles in their original color and flavor.

Zhengyi thin-skinned wonton

Zhengyi thin-skinned wonton is a famous local delicacy in Zhengyi Street in Kunshan. The wonton is wrapped with a paper-thin skin and is added with fresh meat and then put into boiling water.

Braised barbel

Barbel is a special tasty food in Jinxi. It looks like globefish but is smaller in size.

Barbel liver soup and braised barbel are two common ways to cook barbel, and both of them taste extremely delicious.

Wansan port shank

Wansan Port shank is a main course at festivals and banquets in Zhouzhuang, a water town in Kunshan.

Well-marbled roasts of hind legs are steamed or braised for a whole day in a large casserole with mixed ingredients.

 

 

Oval-shaped flat pastry

Oval-shaped flat pastry is called Waidisu in Chinese. It tastes crisp and delicious with a sesame fragrance. Many tourists like to eat these tasty snacks while having some tea.
