Tingshang Guyun hotel will open to the public on Bacheng Town's Old Street in Kunshan city in September.

The hotel features elements of Kunqu opera, an art formthat the owner Portuguese Jose Guedes became deeply interested around three years ago after watching The Peony Pavilion at Tinglin Garden in Kunshan.

Through augmented reality technology, visitors will be able to learn about Kunqu opera in Chinese and English by scanning the paintings on walls and furniture pieces with their phone.

The hotel will house 19 guest rooms, with each room featuring a classic plot of Kunqu opera, and a small opera stage.

Guedes is an enthusiastic fan of traditional Chinese culture and has opened four other cultural hotels, located in the nearby town of Jinxi and Tongli town in Suzhou's Wujiang district.
