A new expressway will connect Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces this year and relieve pressure of the Sujiahang Highway from Jiangsu's Suzhou to Hangzhou's Jiaxing and Hangzhou.
Officials said that the Changshu-Jiashan Expressway, still under construction starts from Dongbangnan Hub in Changshu, intersects Xitai Highway and Highway S48. It shares the eastern section of Suzhou Ring Road, crosses Highway S26 and Chenghu Lake. Then it skirts around Zhouzhuang and Baixian Lake, crosses Highway G318 and Fenghu Lake to reach the border of Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
The 28.5-kilometer expressway is designed with six lanes and a speed limit of 120 km per hour. It will have five overpasses and one service area. The construction of expressway had begun in October 2012.
Notably, Jiangsu and Zhejiang are two of China's most developed provinces. The new expressway can reduce the time of travel between Suzhou and Hangzhou and between the cities’ Kunshan and Wujiang districts.
