Qiandeng: China' first town of slate stone streets

Qiandeng town, well known as "Golden Qiandeng", is a picturesque water town in Kunshan, Jiangsu province. The 1,500-meter slate stone street is lined with buildings dating from the Song Dynasty (AD 420-479). Qiandeng is the hometown of patriotic scholar Gu Yanwu, who is well-known for the motto "every man alive has a duty to his country" which inspired numerous aspiring people to dedicate themselves to their country. Qiandeng is also the hometown of Gu Jian, founder of Kunqu opera, and the birthplace of Kunqu opera, the ancestor of hundreds types of Chinese traditional operas. The water town has beautiful looks, compelling flagstone walks, ancient dwellings and the Qinfeng Pagoda, and also a long history of Liangzhu culture, opera culture and religious culture.

Ticket price: free to visit the ancient town, 60 yuan ($10) per package for scenic spots.

Transportation:

From the New Kunshan bus station to Qiandeng: bus No 112 or 113.

From the Kunshan Train Station to Qiandeng: transfer from bus No 3 (outer/inner ring)or No 30 or No33 (eastern/western ring)or No 111, 88 or 117 at the New Kunshan Bus Station to No 112 or 113.

From Shanghai to Qiandeng: transfer at Huaqiao station on Shanghai metro line 11 to tourism bus No 253.
