Alibaba Group-related logistics company Cainiao held a groundbreaking ceremony for its China Smart Logistic Network (CSN) project in Wuxi Airport Industrial Park (AIPark) on Jan 18, according to the local portal wxrb.com.

Cainiao Logistics operates CSN which provides real-time access to information for both buyers and sellers, as well as information that allows delivery service providers to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their services.

The over-1-billion-yuan ($152 million) project in the AIPark will cover an area of 22.87 hectares.

It will build an open, transparent and shared data platform to offer services to consumers and enterprises that are involved with e-commerce, logistics, storage, and supply chains.

The AIPark is striving to expand the logistics industry with a prominent industrial agglomeration effect.

CSN's AIPark project will grow into Alibaba's e-commerce service center in south Jiangsu, to boost regional e-commerce development, and fire up industrial concentration. It will cover e-commerce, web services, creative design, packaging and dispatching.

Since its launch, Cainiao has partnered with thousands of logistics service providers, moved forward in establishing warehouse and distribution centers in 12 key cities, opened service centers in 1,200 villages and rural provinces, and expanded international delivery to 217 countries and areas, according to Alibaba's news service alizila.com.

It is dedicated to meeting the current and future logistics demands of China's online and mobile commerce sector.

"The ultimate goal of Cainiao is to make it easy to deliver goods to anywhere," Cainiao President Judy Tong once said, "so that parcels delivered in China can arrive in 24 hours and parcels delivered cross-border can arrive in 72 hours" instead of several days currently for shipments within China and days or weeks for international orders.
