By Lu Wei Updated: 2016-11-21

Baotou has added intelligent devices at 158 points on 47 different crossings to detect and record vehicles violating traffic signals, according to the Baotou Daily newspaper.

The devices, known as Video-Based Automatic Detecting and Recording System of Vehicles for Violation of Traffic Signals, will capture images and record videos of vehicles’ violations of traffic regulations, such as running a red light, not stopping at zebra crossings, speeding, traveling in the wrong direction and parking in forbidden areas.

The system allows staff at the transportation management and command center of Baotou to monitor in real-time the road conditions and vehicles. All the data will be sent to the center and the staff will take measures to ensure road safety and efficient management.

Apart from its advantages in transportation management, the employment of the system is expected to play a role in the detection and prevention of crime, helping improve safety in the city.
