“We finally get a chance to read books written by our fellow townsmen,” said one of the Baotou residents at the Xinhua Bookstore in the city, as a book exhibition featuring literature by local writers opened there on Nov 12.

Co-hosted by the Xinhua Bookstore and the Writers’ Association of Baotou, the book exhibition featured Baotou authors, with their books displayed at the venue, and will run until the end of November.

The books cover a wide range of genres, including poetry, novels and essays.

Some 30 local writers were invited to the event to exchange their views on writing skills and ideas, including Bai Tao, leader of the Writers’ Association of Baotou and a poet whose poems are mostly set in the grasslands, in honor of his hometown.

Feng Chuanyou, one of the winners at the 26th National Book Expo, saw the event as promoting literature in Baotou, as the event encouraged reading and included face-to-face communication between the writers and residents.
