Steel rails produced by Baotou Iron and Steel Group are being delivered to Beijing, capital of China, for the city's subway construction, marking the second collaboration between Baotou Iron and Steel Group and Beijing Subway, Baotou Daily reported on Sept 20.

The steel rails will be used for the construction of Beijing Subway Line Eight. The line will be 17.13 km in total, and the steel rails provided by Baotou Iron and Steel Group will cover 7.29 km.

As the capital of China, Beijing boasts the busiest urban underground traffic in the world. The steel rails produced by Baotou Iron and Steel Group are highly competitive. The first collaboration between the group and Beijing Subway in 2011 proved a success, and both parties are expecting to forge closer ties during this year’s collaboration.

Baotou Iron and Steel Group, or Baotou Steel, is an iron and steel state-owned company based in Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region. It is the largest steel business based in Inner Mongolia, and one of the oldest iron and steel industrial bases in China, with a large production base of iron and steel, and the largest scientific research and production base of rare earth metals in China.

Baotou Steel started steel rail production almost half a century ago, and reached its peak in the industry in 2006 when it formed its own universal mill production line and waste heat hardening production line.

The steel rails produced by Baotou Steel have been used in some of the major cities of China including Guangzhou, the provincial capital of South China’s Guangdong province, and in Beijing.
