Baotou vies to tackle air pollution, adopts tough measures

Updated: 2015-12-30

The Baotou bureau of city administration and law enforcement recently took a range of measures to control local air pollution and improve ecological environment. The measures are aimed at improving the health and living conditions of residents.

The measures demand that relevant law enforcement departments arrange detailed tasks and delegate responsibilities. They will also ensure greater controls and supervision of polluters.

According to the measures, relevant departments should enhance the inspection and control of the open burning of noxious and foul gas, such as asphalt, asphalt felt, rubber, plastics, leather and rubbish. In the case of new discoveries of unlawful burning, designated officials are required to make an on-site record and conduct further investigations into responsible companies and persons.

The administration has stressed that illegal open barbecues should be prohibited, cleaning procedures regulated, and sanitation workers prohibited from burning rubbish and leaving in open air. Law enforcement branches are required to inspect all demolition sites in Baotou to supervise and strictly control dust.
