Baotou-Lanzhou Railway: China's first desert railway

Baotou-Lanzhou Railway, from Baotou East Railway Station in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region to Lanzhou station in Northwest China's Gansu province, has been open to passengers since July, 1958.

140 kilometers out of the total 990 kilometers of the railway is in desert area, making it China's first desert railway.
