The Lantern Festival fireworks show started at 8:30 pm on Feb 19 at the Orange Island Square in Changsha and ran for 20 minutes, according to the Changsha culture, tourism, broadcasting, and television bureau.

The show was themed around a psalm about Hunan's capital, Changsha, as well as cultural innovation. The result was an entertaining spectacle for audience from home and abroad.

The show was divided into four sections: Spring, Poem, Distance, and Changsha. It was the first fireworks show to use 3D characters in the sky. Eight themed characters weighing 1.35 tons each were hung above Xiangjiang River, each with an explosion area of about 200 square meters. Also for the first time, the special fireworks pillars exploded to form circle and heart patterns. Special fireworks consisting of 20 characters lit up the night sky and 25 moonlight frames created some spectacular sights.

To promote Changsha's culture and tourism attractions, 100 foreigners, 100 tourist delegates, 100 reporters and photographers, and 100 moral models were invited to watch the show from a cruise ship.
