All toll stations on Hunan expressways (except the Changsha-Xiangtan West Expressway) opened WeChat Pay services on Sept 28, making Hunan the first province in China to allow online payment via Alipay, UnionPay and WeChat.

Hunan expressway has completed a total of 5.12 million transactions since Alipay and UnionPay were introduced on Feb 1, saving 140,000 hours for drivers. WeChat Pay has been available at 439 high-speed toll stations in the province since Sept 28.

The payment system is very easy and safe. After checking with the toll collector, drivers will hear a voice prompt directing them to pay highway tolls by scanning the payment code of the relevant app on their mobile phones. The entire payment process only takes about two seconds.

In addition to saving time for drivers, mobile payment also greatly improves the efficiency of toll collectors. According to staff of the Xingsha toll station, mobile payment allows vehicles to complete the whole process within 5 seconds of arriving at the station.
