Changsha county records sound performance in Q1

Changsha county experienced steady economic progress during the first quarter, according to the Changsha county statistics bureau.

In the three month period Changsha county's gross regional production was 30.08 billion yuan ($4.71 billion), up 9.2 percent year-on-year, and its added value of large-scale industries totaled 59.24 billion yuan.

Structurally, the primary industry rose 3.7 percent to 1.43 billion yuan, the secondary industry picked up by 9.7 percent to 19.75 billion yuan and the tertiary industry saw an increase of 9 percent, recording 8.9 billion yuan.

"Major economic indicators clearly show that Changsha county realized steady and fast development," according to an official at the bureau.

The region underwent steady improvement not only in quantity but also in quality of development; its tourism industry is a case in point.

In recent years Changsha county has been stepping up efforts to shift the focus of its tourism industry from developing scenic spots, hotels and restaurants to all-for-one tourism through developing rural and recreational tourism and improving tourist facilities and services.

In addition, three major industries of engineering machinery, automobiles and parts, and electronic information compiled an output of 46.3 billion yuan, accounting for 78.2 percent of total industrial output value. Some emerging companies in various fields of intelligent terminals and parts, such as integrated circuitry, software and information technologies, and information security, are growing quickly.

Local enterprises Lens Technology and Hunan GOKE Micro-electronics, among others, have come to the fore and are pioneering the smart economy.

"The recovery of engineering machinery is a manifestation of the real economy improving after the combined efforts of local companies and government," according to the official.

Changsha county in this year's first quarter attracted fix-asset investment of 16.67 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent. The Changsha Huanghua Comprehensive Bonded Area progressed well, with construction of its trading center for import and export commodities now in full swing.

In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
