County-level scholarships and grants set up

The issuing ceremony of scholarship and grants, sponsored by enterprises, was held in Changsha County Experimental Middle School on Sept 12.

So far, some 13 enterprises and individuals have set up county-level named scholarships and grants in the middle and primary schools of Changsha county. A teachers' educational fund and teaching assistance were also set up to commend and subsidize excellent teachers and teachers with financial difficulties.

One hundred and eighty-five students gained a “Sany Scholarship”, donated by the Sany Group. More than 100 teachers gained teachers' educational funding and teaching assistance. Apart from the “Sany Scholarship”, 10 more scholarships and grant projects were also represented at the issuing ceremony, including “Hunan Embroidery City Scholarship” donated by Hunan Embroidery City, “CHTC JOVE Scholarship” donated by CHTC JOVE Heavy Industry Company and so on.

Scholarships and grants are allocated annually. 735,000 yuan ($119,000) of scholarship and grants have been given out this year.

There are four county-level teachers' educational funds this year, namely “Wangjia Excellent Teacher” and “Wangjia Excellent Head Teacher” donated by Changsha Wangjia Real Estate Development Co, “Sany Teachers' Educational Fund” by Sany Group and “Bowen Teachers' Educational Fund” donated by Zhang Bowen with 1 million yuan. Ten teachers who are living in poor family conditions received funds for teaching assistance.

“Assisting the education undertakings has been a common practice among new- generation entrepreneurs in Changsha county.” said Cao Zhigao, secretary-general of Xingsha Education Foundation. Since September, 2013, more than 14.8 million yuan has been collected to help 14,439 poor students. In the last 10 years, 110,000 poor students were funded with 113 million yuan. In the past four years, teaching assistance reached eight million yuan and teachers' educational funding exceeded 11 million yuan.

Changsha seeks to revive porcelain production

In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
