Hunan auto industry base

Changsha county got the “Hunan’s auto and auto parts base” and “car production and export base” award from the provincial government’s science and technology dept and commerce dept and in 2011, had 58 enterprises with 20 billion yuan in total output, up 6.1 percent from 2010, and accounting for 14 percent of the county’s total.

Major companies included GAC Fiat Automobile, Germany’s Bosch, Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Shaanxi Automobile Group, Changfeng Group (Leopaard), and Changsha Zotye Auto Industry Co. Over the next five years, industry will focus on limousines and SUVs, and auto parts such as engines, axles, gearboxes, and suspension systems, and work with institutions in establishing research, testing and production centers, with industry expected to have 100 billion yuan in total output.

The county’s e-information industry has developed steadily and in 2011 had 1.81 billion yuan in industrial output, up 6.6 percent from 2010. Its major enterprises were Newsmy Digital Technology and Great Wall Information Industry, which specialize in new displays, integrated circuitry, digital audio-video equipment, and software and networks.

The industry is expected to develop faster over the next few years, as the Lens Technology Co, a global leader in research, production and sales of glass touch screen, has opened a branch here.

In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
