Dawei Mountain Forest Park in Liuyang county

Dawei Mountain, a branch of Luoxiao Mountains, is located to the northeast of Liuyang city, Hunan province. It is the highest mountain in the eastern part of Hunan, standing at about 1,608 meters, and is at the head of Liuyang River. It is 119 km from the provincial capital of Changsha city, and 67 km away from Liuyang city.

The former Ministry of Forests approved it to be developed into a national forest park in 1992; and it was officially opened on Aug 1, 1996. It was rated as a national 4-As-level scenery spot in June, 2007. Five year later in 2012, it was established as a national geological park.

Dawei Mountain, entitled “natural animal and plant gen bank”, has abundant animal and plant resources, covering more than 3,000 varieties of 23 plant families, and 68 types of wild animal. Additionally, there are over 10,000 mu (666.7 hectares) of rhododendrons and 5,000 mu of mesophorbium at the top of the mountain.

In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
