In September 1982, Pittsburgh established friendship with Wuhan. Over past twenty years, several mayors of both cities have been making mutual visit frequently.
In 1998, both cities concluded a package agreement between Wuhan and Pittsburgh on economical, cultural and educational exchange and cooperation. In 1999, Pittsburgh set up China Trade and Investment Coordination Center. In recent two years, Pittsburgh sent delegations to attend Wuhan Mechanical and Electrical Exposition, and Economic and Trade Fair; there are two pairs of sister schools between both cities. Pittsburgh has set up three joint ventures and become Wuhan's sister cities with the most investment in Wuhan.
