A Friendship City Agreement was signed between Wuhan, capital city of central China's Hubei Province and Canada's Markham on September 12, 2006. So far, there are 57 pairs of friendship city ties have been established between Hubei and foreign provinces or states.

Six pairs of sister province or city relations were set in the first nine month of 2006, which were Gelderland of Holland, Telemaque of Norway with Hubei, Wuhan and New Zealand’s Christchurch, Yichang with Brazil’s Iguassu, Yichang with US Washington County.

10 pairs of friendship province or city ties will be established during the Eleventh Five-year Plan period (2006-2011) to bring Hubei's friendship relations worldwide.
