Hubei enjoys a long history and timeless culture. Once known as Chu State, the culture and art in Hubei reflects deep Jing-Chu cultural influences.

The magical and old land of Hubei, together with Central China, fostered the Chu culture, the “two sources of Chinese civilization”. The historical site of Jinan City, the Chu Tomb in Xiongjia Mound, Qu Yuan Memorial Hall and other historical and cultural sites and relics retained after thousands of years’ document the splendid Chu culture.

The Yangtze River heading east links Lushui Lake, ancient battlefield Red Cliff, ancient Jingzhou city, Changbanpo, Tomb of Emperor Guan, Shuijing Village, ancient Longzhong, ancient Xiangyang city and the sites of major historical events.

Taoist culture finds inspiration from Hubei land. Wudang Mountain is a cultural heritage and a holy land for Taoism. It has the best preserved ancient Taoist building complex with the largest scale and highest level in China. Its magnificence wins over people from all over the world.

The elegant Chu culture and mystery of Taoism make Hubei a culturally significant spot to visit.
