Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, ranks the 6th in a global open data index, following Shanghai, New York, Seoul, Beijing and Chicago, according to the 2020 Open Data Index of Global Important Cities report recently released by the institute of information of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
Relying on China's first integrated government open data platform of prefecture-level cities, Guiyang realized data classification in categories of themes, industries, areas, services and departments, becoming the first city in the country to apply an online guide robot that helps users to review, browse and download data.
Meanwhile, the platform provides various machine readable open data layouts, visualized data maps, metadata catalogue searches and other services, allowing users to download and apply the data according to their own needs.
So far, the platform has opened 2,722 data sets and 387 application programming interface resources to the public for free. It has achieved over 2.73 million page views, 840,000 data downloads, and 22,000 WeChat followers, supporting over 20 smartphone apps covering transport, tourism, food, tendering and bidding.
According to the report, Guiyang has advantages in supporting policies, license agreements, regulations, management and opening-up at both municipal and district level, which help to promote the development of open data.
The report aims to help public sectors to develop open data with limited resources, establish a sustainable mechanism to promote open data applications, and stimulate data application products to generate value.
