With pollution making the headlines more and more frequently these days, many hotels marked their commitment to environmental conservation by joining in commemorating Earth Hour.

The Guiyang Kempinski Hotel put together a special eco-friendly fashion show to convey the concept of environmental protection on March 29, which was part of the Earth Hour activity it held in response to the Blue Sky Project of the WWF.

Earth Hour calls for millions of people across the world to switch off lights for one hour at 8:30pm, March 29, to celebrate their commitment to the planet. It aims to focus on responsibility in environmental protection, as well as raise awareness of climate change and global warming. Before Earth Hour, the Guiyang Kempinski began to promote the event and encourage guest participation through screen messages, social media and other channels.

For the fashion show, the hotel staff turned waste materials – including newspapers, plastic bags, woven bags, craft paper and velvet paper – into tailor-made and stylish dresses.

"It is amazing that newspapers, plastic bags and brown paper can be used to make beautiful clothes after being finely cut," said an audience member at the Environmental Fashion Show at the Kempinski

By putting on the show, the Kempinski hoped to spread the idea of promoting sustainable living and protecting the earth against global warming.

It is the third year that Guiyang's Kempinski Hotel has supported the Earth Hour initiative.

"Kempinski is a hotel management company with a global footprint. We play an important role as a corporate citizen to protect the environment. Earth Hour is an excellent opportunity to help raise awareness for climate change and engage in energy-saving initiatives with our employees and guests," said Fuat Koroglu, the general manager of the Guiyang Kempinski Hotel.

Between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on March 29, the hotel turned down its lights, including decorative lighting in public areas, corridors and back office lighting. Most guests joined in by switching off their room lights. The hotel started lighting candles in the lobby where most of the lights were turned off. Some guests enjoyed the show with a candle-lit drink in the Lobby Lounge.

The Guiyang Kempinski Hotel remains steadfast in its commitment to pursuing and supporting initiatives that mitigate the effects of climate change, and promoting a green, sustainable future.

Fuat Koroglu said,"Guiyang's Kempinski Hotel is committed to ongoing sustainable environmental practices. We hope our idea can make a positive difference for our guests and associates."
