Guiyang saw environment improvement last year, according to the 2018 Guiyang Municipal environment bulletin released by the Guiyang Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment on June 3.
The bulletin stated that last year, the city's forest coverage rate was 52 percent, with an increase of 1,088,500 square meters in urban public green space. The water quality of drinking water sources reached the national standard rate of 100 percent, while 93.75 percent of the monitored surface water was rated good or better. Out of the whole year, 357 days in Guiyang enjoyed an air quality rating of good or better. The environmental treatment of atmospheric pollution, agricultural pollution, and urban pollution were also examined.
Guiyang enacted strict environment regulations last year. A total of 239 environmental violations behaviors were investigated and prosecuted, with a total penalty amount of 34.78 billion yuan ($5.03 billion).
"We have enhanced daily supervision and random checks on pollution, especially for enterprises. After investigations, the results will go public," said Tao Ying, an official of the Guiyang Environmental Protection Inspection Brigade.
In addition, the bulletin introduced environmental actions and results in Guiyang last year, including solid waste prevention, environment regulation, supervision, management, research, publicity, and education efforts.
