Updated: 2019-01-07

Work to connect the main part of Huohua Bridge, the longest highway bridge in southwest China's Guizhou province, was completed on Jan 5.

Located in Huahuo township of Anshun, the bridge is an important project along the highway connecting Ziyun county and Wangmo county in Guizhou province. The bridge is jointly constructed by China Metallurgical Construction Engineering Group Co Ltd and Guizhou Communications Construction Group Co Ltd.

With a length of 4.075 kilometers, Huohua Bridge is one of the longest highway bridges in China's mountainous regions. Its highest pier is 107.5 meters and the highest deck is 115 meters, which is equivalent to the height of a 30-storey building. The construction of the bridge utilized 360,000 cubic meters of concrete and 50,000 tons of steel rebar.

Workers of the project encountered several technical and topographic challenges in the course of its construction. Karst caves and mountains greatly increased the construction difficulties and risks.
