The Party chief of South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region is keen to lure investment from Hong Kong, which is one of the region’s largest investors.

Peng Qinghua, Party chief of Guangxi, said he welcomed investment from Hong Kong when he met a Hong Kong business delegation on Saturday.

The business mission included more than 30 people and was led by Chen Jingwei, chairman of the Hong Kong China Chamber of Commerce. It arrived in Guangxi on Saturday to check on investment opportunities in the autonomous region.

Peng said that Guangxi has a promising future with great development potential, especially with the setting up of the ASEAN-China free trade area.

The preferential policies within the free-trade zone, Guangxi’s location and its strong ties with ASEAN countries have made the autonomous region a hot spot for foreign investment.

Hong Kong is Guangxi’s largest investor outside the Chinese mainland. Investors from Hong Kong have set up as many as 6,486 companies in Guangxi by the end of 2012. The contract value of the investment from Hong Kong to Guangxi totaled $15 billion.

“Guangxi’s development in recent years has been great. We are very passionate and confident to put our investment in Guangxi. With the support of the local government, we hope our cooperation with Guangxi can be brought to the next level,” said Chen Jingwei, chairman of the Hong Kong China Chamber of Commerce.
