Gala for poverty alleviation held in Hechi

Hechi in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region held an evening gala on Oct 16 to mark the sixth National Poverty Relief Day, which falls on Oct 17 every year.

A variety of performances were given at the gala, reproducing scenes of governmental officials at the grassroots level fighting against poverty and showcasing the remarkable results of poverty alleviation efforts.

The city has launched a series of support plans in its poverty alleviation efforts. More than 45,800 cadres paired up with 176,000 poor households to assist them escape poverty.

From 2016 to 2018, the city lifted 486,800 people and 378 villages out of poverty. Jinchengjiang district, as well as Nandan and Tian'e counties, were removed from the list of poverty-stricken counties.

The incidence of poverty dropped from 20.16 percent in 2016 to 8.22 percent in 2018, which has laid a solid foundation for completing the construction of a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020.

 

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
