Agricultural products in Hechi get national recognition

Four agricultural specialties including varieties such as rice, silkworm cocoons and cannas from Hechi in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region were recognized as geographical indications at a review meeting in Beijing recently.

Specialists from Beijing were impressed by the regional features, history, market popularity, prospects and economic benefits of the agricultural products in Hechi.

Hechi strives to boost agriculture by taking advantage of environment and resources. The local government has set strict standards to perfect quality management and production technology, to provide a better technical basis for agriculture development.

Agriculture in Hechi features silk, sugarcane, edible fungi, fruit, fish breeding and poultry raising, and is one of the city's pillar industries.

Currently Hechi has 15 agricultural products with national geographical indication recognition, which is the largest amount in Guangxi.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
