Zhaoqing announces transportation projects

Zhoaqing this year plans to spend 11.884 billion yuan on transportation infrastructure, local officials announced.

About 6.818 billion yuan will build railways and light rail, and 4.918 billion yuan will be spent on highway construction. Another 108.2 million yuan will be spent on port waterways and 40 million yuan will be spent on road terminals.

On April 11, the 2011 municipal transportation work meeting was held by the municipal government. Key projects that were defined at that meeting included the Jiangmen-Zhaoqing section (phase 2) of the Outer Ring Expressway, Zhaoqing-Huadu Expressway and Huaiji-Lianzhou section of Erenhot-Guangzhou Expressway (including the section from Huaiji to Gangping).

Efforts will be made to begin construction of the Dawang-Xiaoxiang section of Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing Expressway. A route survey report and other preparatory work for the Huaiji-Luoding Expressway will be completed within the next year.

This year, Zhaoqing will seek to initiate construction of 21 projects involving national or provincial highways. The goal is to begin building 470.6 kilometers of roadways and complete 398.134 kilometers. There are also 38 projects involving county and township highway projects and regional integration of highways. These projects are intended to strengthen the connection to Guangzhou and Foshan.

Regarding railway and light rail construction , the city plans to invest 6.818 billion yuan within the year to begin construction of the Guizhou-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, Nanning-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway and Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing Intercity Light Rail.

The city also will begin work on a waterway on the Xiajiang River (Zhaoqing Bridge – Jieshou of Fengkai) within the next year. The city will stress preparatory work on the two 2,000-tonnage terminals for China Resources Cement (Fengkai) Co Ltd and storage yards and warehouses for New Zhaoqing Harbor.
