Updated: 2018-05-04

Zhanjiang Intermediate People's Court announced at a news release on May 2 that there has been an increasing number of labor dispute cases in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, with the labor relationship constantly changing.

The court published five typical cases and tips for workers to protect their legal rights in order to familiarize them with labor laws and regulations.

According to Liang Quan, the executive vice president of Zhanjiang Intermediate People's court, there were a total of 3,083 labor dispute cases from 2013 to 2017, 3,027 of which are now settled and 692 of which were withdrawn.

Disputes over labor contracts is most common (42.44 percent) among all labor dispute cases, followed by those involving labor remuneration recovery, labor relations confirmation, economic compensation and work-related injuries.

The court said that many disputes arose due to labor contracts failing to provide sufficient or clear information as to the working conditions and payment, or no effective labor contract being signed at all. Other disputes are caused by enterprise reform or workforce layoff.

In order to improve the situation, Zhanjiang Intermediate People's court has pledged to strengthen judicial capability, stressing the importance of both labor rights and company development. More effort will be made to resolve disputes using diverse mechanisms.
