Guangdong Medical University (GDMU) and Guangdong Ocean University (GDOU) are now authorized to issue master's or doctoral degrees in nine more disciplines, according to a list released by the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee recently.

This means that GDMU will be able to enroll postgraduates who wish to study the five disciplines of biology, basic medicine, pharmacology, public health and preventive medicine, and medical technology. Those who complete the courses will be conferred with a first-grade academic master's degree or professional master's degree.

Now GDMU is eligible to issue one first-grade doctoral degree, six first-grade academic master's degrees, and one professional master's degree.

The academic master's degree issued by GDOU for its students in manufacturing and automation will be upgraded from the second-grade to the first-grade. Meanwhile, the school will also be able to enroll postgraduates in law and landscape gardening courses and grant them professional master's degree.

At present, GDOU has three first-grade doctoral degree conferring courses, nine first-grade academic master's conferring degree courses as well as five professional master's conferring degree courses.
