Updated: 2017-02-13

The works of Zhanjiang painter Lin Dihuan were featured on China Central Television's (CCTV) "Chinese Poetry Congress", broadcast from Jan 29 to Feb 9.

The appearance of Lin's work on "Chinese Poetry Congress", actually a poetry recital program, has proved popular with viewers, with one commenting, "Poetry harbor paintings and paintings are often concealed under poetry".

Lin is a famous painter from Zhanjiang's Wuchuan, whose illustrations played a major role in the Chinese 24 Solar Terms being included on UNESCO's World Heritage List on Nov 30 in 2016.

"Time was so short that I could only spend about half a day on each painting," said Lin.

"Chinese Poetry Congress" in its second season on CCTV, has proved popular with audiences thanks to its unique combination of Chinese history and culture into a competition format.

Lin's art works were used during the television show to illustrate clues to the contestants in order for them to guess famous and historical works of literature and poetry.

Speaking about the inclusion of his paintings on the show, Lin said that he has a long connection with poetry stretching back to his days at school. "I particularly enjoy works from the Tang and Song dynasties (618-1279)," said Lin.

Lin, who also teaches at Sun Yat-sen University, said that his understanding of poetry has fed into and influence much of his artistic works.
