The First Meeting of the 13th Zhanjiang Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) took place on Jan 9 at the Zhanjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center. The meeting covered the political achievements and management over the past five years.

A political advisory body in China, the CPPCC has members from political parties, organizations, and individuals. The organization changes the term of office every five years.

The meeting, hosted by Xu Shun, member of the standing committee of the Zhanjiang Municipal Party Committee, was attended by CPPCC members including Party Secretary Wei Hongguang and Wang Zhongbing, deputy Party secretary and mayor of Zhanjiang.

During the tenure of the 12th Zhanjiang Municipal Committee of CPPCC, significant improvements have taken place in economic, urban and rural construction, as well as social undertakings. The members attributed the achievements to being "pragmatic, innovative, and dynamic". Disciplining themselves with a target to build a study-oriented organization, the members raised proposals most concerned with social and economic benefits through negotiation.

According to the meeting, of the 1,013 proposals made in the last five years, 794 have been reviewed and filed, with 23 percent solved completely. The percentage of full and basic satisfaction among public reached 99.5 percent.

Presenters of good proposals were awarded at the meeting, with topics covering aspects such as developing clean energy.

The next five years are key to carrying out the city's and province's goal to build a prosperous society, said Deng Biquan, chairman of the Zhanjiang Municipal Committee of CPPCC. He vowed to continue sticking to major state policies and contribute more during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020).

The Guangdong Provincial Party Committee sent its representatives to guide and supervise the changing session work of the Zhanjiang Committee of CPPCC.

Important economic and social issues will be discussed over the next days.
