Zhanjiang officials cycle around upgraded eco-park

A government cycling team led by Zhanjiang Party Secretary Wei Hongguang and Mayor Wang Zhongbing rode public bikes around Binhu Park, the city's largest lake wetland park, after the completion of reconstruction on Dec 30.

It took about an hour to finish cycling the 12.6-kilometer greenway around the park. Now Zhanjiang's longest greenway, the path has been newly added to the park as part of a series of construction upgrades on the embankment that have taken place since 2012.

The lakeside greenway, providing an ideal place for leisure and entertainment, was a New Year's gift to the people of Zhanjiang, said the government.

Binhu Park, located near the Jinsha Bay Seaview Corridor and Tiaoshun Island in Chikan district, covers an area of 18.14 hectares. Undocumented buildings and landfills along the 12.5-kilometer lakeshore have been dismantled and replaced by planks, bridges, pavilions and a recreation squares.

The Zhanjiang government hopes more supporting facilities, such as resting areas, will be built to make citizens more comfortable.
