Zhanjiang data analysis service finds fish
Updated: 2016-12-12
The Guangdong Ocean University (GDOU) has recently developed a real-time fish finding terminal for use aboard vessels fishing in the South China Sea, according to Zhanjiang Daily on Dec 5.
The terminal uses the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System and uses image encryption to ensure security. The system not only finds fish, but is also able to record data which then can be sent to a central server and processed using big data so that future predictions on fishing grounds can be made.
The terminal was developed by GDOU's detection and assessment center on South China Sea's fishery resources.
Established in 1997 and co-administrated by the Guangdong government and the State Oceanic Administration, Zhanjiang-based GDOU is a provincial-level key university competitive in oceanography and maritime sciences.
So far, more than 140 vessels from Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi use the terminal in their search for purple squid and large tuna in the South China Sea.
