Beibu Gulf Economic Rim to deepen, expand cooperation

The Beibu Gulf Organization for Economic Cooperation will hold its ninth general assembly on Oct 27 in Guangdong's Zhanjiang, in order to widen economic cooperation and showcase achievements in the integration of coastal cities.

The establishment of Beibu Gulf Cities Cooperation Organization will be announced at the meeting for upgraded, all-round and wide-ranging cooperation, according to the press conference held on Oct 21.

The Beibu Gulf Organization for Economic Cooperation, established in 2000, has attracted 28 cities and firms around the Beibu Gulf, surrounding China's southwestern coastal region. The gulf is located at the west of the Pacific Ocean and east of mainland Asia, including cities such as Nanning, Haikou and Zhanjiang.

The biennial meeting is sponsored by the organization and undertaken by the Zhanjiang government, as the Beibu Gulf's development has been made a priority by the central government, since it is one of the most important city agglomerations, according to the latest 13th Five-year Plan (2016-20).

Some 250 scholars, journalists and officials from 28 member cities will attend the meeting, setting a participation record.

The international regional cooperation organization will put its cooperation achievements in the spotlight, especially its economic achievements.

The event includes a main meeting and a seminar, a summit attend by city mayors and a working meeting for journalists which will draw a blueprint for development over the next stage.

For example, cooperation agreements on various sectors including tourism, sports, transportation, culture, and funds for housing will be reached during the meeting.

In addition, another two cities, Yulin and Chongzuo in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, along with three Zhanjiang-based enterprises will join the organization, injecting new energy and purpose.
