Hainan to connect more closely to inland through Zhanjiang

Updated: 2016-09-23

The Nanshan work zone at the Xuwen port area in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province will officially open on Sept 28, increasing Hainan's economic connection to the inland via the Qiongzhou Strait.

Located at the Nanshan village of Zhanjiang's Xuwen county, the work zone will be developed into a passenger-cargo ro-ro (roll on/off) terminal.

Covering a land area of 49.8 hectares and a water area of 49.5 hectares, it will provide a 1200-meter shipping lane.

Sixteen 5000GT passenger-cargo ro-ro berths and one 5000GT ro-ro berth especially for dangerous products are expected to be established at the work zone.

The zone will be able to handle 3.2 million vehicles and 17.28 million passengers annually to meet the demands of the Qiongzhou Strait area.

Upon completion, the zone will take over the passenger-cargo ro-ro business from neighboring Hai'an Port and Hai'an New Port, becoming part of a new passenger and logistic route in cooperation with the Xinhai Port in Hainan.
