Zhanjiang to host 2016 CMEE in November

The 2016 China Marine Economy Expo (CMEE) is set to take place in the seaside city of Zhanjiang, Guangdong province from Nov 24 to 27.

The expo is expected to showcase the latest achievements that China has made under the backdrop of the "new normal" of the Chinese economy, the development of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, as well as marine scientific and technological innovations.

The event will highlight the development of emerging industries with cross-border integration, such as "marine plus technology", "marine plus innovation", "marine plus finance" and "marine plus tourism". The expo will explore new ideas and ways to optimize the market, further stimulating greater trade cooperation and settlements of creative industries.

Co-organized by the State Oceanic Administration and the Guangdong provincial government, the expo will be held at the Zhanjiang Olympic Sports Center, and cover an area of more than 100,000 square meters. The organizers said the expo will focus on innovation, green economy, openness and cooperation.

Comprised of three exhibition areas, the expo will feature international, national and industrial halls, and three experience zones with yachts, marine makers, and tourism features.

A series of forums, cooperation conferences and investment meetings will also be held.

Countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, are expected to attend, as well as Global Top 500 companies, including State Power Investment Corporation and Chia Tai Group.

Inaugurated in Guangzhou in 2012, the CMEE has been held three times in the past. The 2015 CMEE opened in Zhanjiang, and resulted in creating a turnover of 32.67 billion yuan ($4.9 billion).
