To capitalize on the abundant wind resources in Zhanjiang's Xuwen county, authorities there are combining efforts to making it one of Guangdong's main clean energy bases. Located in the exposed north of the Leizhou Peninsula, the area has potential to play an important role in the national development of renewable energy. Since the first wind power plant was built by Guangdong Yudean Group in Xinliao town in 2009, another four wind power plants have since been established in Xuwen county by major domestic electricity companies.

"Xuwen county boasts the most wind power projects and the largest installed capacity in Guangdong province," said an official from the county's science and technology bureau.

Six wind power projects are currently under construction, namely, Huahai, Huangtang, Qujiefeng, Shibanlingfeng, Fengshan and Fulai. Another three projects are scheduled to begin this year, while another two are in the planning phase.
