The coastal city of Zhanjiang is building a huge education base at its Huguang township, setting to host a multitude of schools, institutes and universities and become a key learning hub in the region.

The first phase of the Cunjin Institute of Guangdong Ocean University has been taking shape recently and is scheduled for completion before Aug 20 this year, with its first 5,000 to 6,000 students following shortly after, according to city officials.

The institute plans to establish a business school, science and technology school, graduate school and an incubation base for science and technology, aiming to become the Zhanjiang University of Science and Technology in the future.

In addition to the institute, Zhanjiang Mechanical and Electrical School, Zhanjiang Preschool Teachers College, Zhanjiang Second Technician College and other colleges in the city are going to move in the base upon its completion.

Huguang will also take on a brighter outlook when the base is completed, according to the township officials.
