Updated: 2015-12-09

An amateur women's football team in the countryside of Zhanjiang show much passion about football, challenging a usually men-dominated field.

Most of the team members are mothers with children. The oldest member is 40 years old. They have different occupations. Among them are a waitress, a farmer and a teacher. However, they share the same roots in their village and have the same level of passion about football.

Recently, the women's team took part in a football tournament held in Chikan Stadium. A total of 28 soccer teams participated in the tournament. They were the only female team, competing and challenging men's teams, showing their bright and brave spirit.

Xu Yulin, a midfielder in the team, said that she started playing football as early as in primary school in Zhanjiang. Then she went to Wuhan to play in the national games, representing the Hubei team.

"I came back to Zhanjiang after retirement. I haven't played football for nearly nine years. However, I still feel good when playing side by side with my team members. I will go on playing with them," Xu added.
