By Cao Xiating Updated: 2015-03-12

The State Oceanic Administration(SOA) will continue to back up Zhanjiang in holding the China Ocean Economy Expo and constructing the southern “maritime valley”, senior officials of the SOA said.

Wang Hong, director of the State Oceanic Administration, said that the SOA will support Zhanjiang in developing marine industries and help the city better integrate into the Belt and Road Initiative. He made the remarks in a meeting with Zhanjiang mayor Wang Zhongbing and other NPC deputies from Zhanjiang on March 11.

Wang Zhongbing introduced about the city’s marine economic development to the senior officials from the SOA. He said that Zhanjiang, as a marine city, will bring its deep water port into full play, and forge a modern industrial cluster on the Donghai Island.

Wang Zhongbing also stressed the city’s resolve to protect environment while driving economic growth. “Zhanjiang will never sacrifice the marine ecological environment when accelerating economic and social development, and will make all efforts to realize the dual targets of economic rise and clear sky and water,” Wang said.

Wang Hong gave full acknowledgement to the achievements Zhanjiang had made in developing marine economy and protecting marine eco-system. He said the central government had paid high attention to the blue sea, as is specified in the 2015 Government Work Report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang in the opening meeting of the national legislature’s annual session.

Wang Hong hoped that Zhanjiang can continue its efforts in the research and development on marine science and technology, marine industry development and marine ecological protection.

Wang Fei, vice director of the State Oceanic Administration, said that the SOA will give more policy and financial support to Zhanjiang in holding the China Ocean Economy Expo and establishing the southern “maritime valley”, an innovation platform for marine economic development.

Zhanjiang municipal government and the State Oceanic Administration have cooperated closely in holding the China Ocean Economy Expo, the largest national exhibition for China’s marine industry.
