Wang Zhongbing, mayor of Zhanjiang city, inspected two educational bases on Thursday together with other government officials. During the inspection he stressed that education should be a top priority for the government.

Wang inspected the construction site of the Zhanjiang Vocational Education Base and the No 27 Primary School on Thursday morning, along with other senior officials, including Chenyun, director of the municipal propaganda department, and Luo Xiping, vice-mayor of Zhanjiang city.

After the inspection, Wang Zhongbing attended a seminar held by the municipal education bureau, discussing how to tackle difficulties in education work.

Officials from the Zhanjiang municipal education bureau reported the progress made in Zhanjiang education, as infrastructure facilities and teacher resources have both improved in districts, counties and towns across the country.

Wang said that education is the responsibility of governments at all levels and all of society. The government should make investment, planning and teacher training a priority.

Wang said that district governments should put the cause of education at the top of their agendas. They should also ensure financing for new school construction and campus safety, with responsibilities for each department defined clearly.
