To realize the larger goal of tourists “going to Hainan to view the sea and coming to Meizhou to enjoy the mountains”, Zhu proposed a three-part plan for his city.

First, build an international tourism brand and also advance a green economy, he said, which will bring prosperity to the people.

Second, boost all-round tourism and services, he said. All departments should work together to improve the regional infrastructure and tourism environment, Zhu added.

Third, learn from the experience of other tourism destinations, Zhu said. Zhu said Meizhou officials should visit other destinations such as Kunshan to learn about their experiences. In addition, top-ranking experts in tourism should be invited to deliver lectures to help local executives enhance their skills to develop a local tourism industry, he said.
