On May 16, 2014, the Xesalalong-Xekeu Irrigation Project contracted by CGGC was handed over officially. After being put into use, the project is capable of providing sufficient agricultural and drinking water for major grain producing areas in central-south Laos.
At the handover ceremony, Zheng Yixu, General Manager of China Gezhouba Group International Engineering Company Ltd. (Laos) and Maigoh, Director of Irrigation Department of Agriculture and Forestry Ministry, on behalf of both sides, signed names on handover documents. Present and cut the ribbon at the ceremony are Somsavat, Lao Vice Premier, Vilayvanh Phomkhe, Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Souphanh Keomixay, Governor of Savannakhet Province, Liang Jianjun, Charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, Huang Lilin, Project Management Director of CGGC International.
The project, located in Savannakhet Province, Laos, includes Xesalalong and Xekeu irrigation systems, with its work scope consisting of water reservoir, dam, water intake structure, flood spillway, diversion canal and buildings along canal system etc. The water retaining dam is 21m high and 1,812m long, with water reservoir of 7513 cubic meters. The 51km long irrigation system is capable of meeting 2000 hectares of farmlands’ water supply as well as drinking water of people and livestock in irrigated area.
Governor Souphanh Keomixay said in his speech that more than 100 hectares of farmland will be rendered arable in local irrigated area since the project comes into operation in 2015. The project plays a key role in advancing local economic and social development, especially by raising agricultural production level, therefore improving people’s livelihood in and around irrigated area.
As the first irrigation project contracted by CGGC in Laos, CGGC endeavors to ensure the project’s successful completion, what’s more, we also made efforts to promote culture exchange and dialogues between China and Laos, thus enhancing the good reputation of CGGC, meanwhile making contributions to a closer tie between China and Laos, Huang Lilin said at the ceremony.
