The 2nd Cross-Straits Hanfu Cultural Festival kicked off in Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian province, on Saturday, attracting nearly 100 clubs from across the Taiwan Straits.
Hanfu, also known as Hanzhuang or Huafu, is the traditional Chinese dress invented during the Han Dynasty (202 BC – 220 AD).
Hundreds of gorgeous Hanfu were exhibited during the festival, which is “an eye opener” even for some promoters of the traditional costume.
“Seeing so many people wear Hanfu at the same time, each distinctive, and the smiles on their faces, you can tell that people have a love affair with the clothing,” said Wang Yifeng from a Taiwan-based traditional culture association.
Another Hanfu festival was staged in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on Saturday, echoing the feast in Fuzhou. Wang said she expected to invite Hanfu clubs on the Chinese mainland to the shows in Taiwan later this year.
