Fujian celebrates National Day

Zheng Xiaosong, vice-governor of Fujian province, presented Friendship Award to a foreign expert, at the 8th Fujian Friendship Awards ceremony, on Sept 27, in in the Shangri-la Hotel, in Fuzhou.

When the Fujian provincial government celebrated China’s 64th National Day, in the Shangri-la Hotel, in Fuzhou, the provincial capital, on Friday, the vice-governor, Zheng Xiaosong, was on hand to address the gathering and give a warm welcome to all the guests.

“Thanks to China’s opening-up policy, especially the Party Central Committee and State Council’s preferential policies, Fujian’s economy has developed rapidly in recent years.”

Zheng went on to say that it would be wrong not to recognize the positive contributions from international friends, overseas Chinese and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to Fujian’s economic achievements.

Government’s statistics show Fujian’s major economic indicators above the national’s average for the Jan - Aug period and a regional GDP growing 11.2 percent year-on-year; while fixed asset investment grew 23.9 percent, consumer good sales, 13.6 percent, imports 14.7 percent, and export, 15 percent. Fujian also saw a steady rise in urban and rural incomes, while the employment situation remained stable. In the first half of this year, per capita urban incomes increased 9.2 percent, from last year’s same period while in rural areas they grew 12.7 percent.

In reflecting on this, Zheng noted, “Our development still faces many difficulties and problems, such as an unbalanced economic transformation pattern, and a lack of independent innovative capacity. We need to speed up the pace of opening-up and get closer to the rest of the world to create a better Fujian, and a better world.”.

Afterwards, at the 8th Fujian Friendship Awards ceremony held simultaneously, he presented Friendship Awards to winners from the United States, Germany, Spain and Sweden.
