According to the provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, Trami, the 12th typhoon to hit Fujian on Aug 22 this year, brought strong wind and heavy rain and caused major damage along coastal areas.
By 12:00 am noon or midnight of Aug 22, it had affected more than 827,000 people in 50 counties and districts, with 402,300 having to be evacuated to safer places and 10,000 missing, along with 480 buildings collapsing, 84,480 hectares of crops destroyed, 33.6 kilometers of levees destroyed, and causing 95 flights at local airports to be canceled.
Trami has also destroyed many power lines and equipment, causing blackouts in more than 80,000 homes and leaving the State Grid’s Fujian Electric Power struggling to repair the gird damage. By now, about 80 percent of the affected homes have access to electricity once again.
